February....
Well February has got off to a cold start, with many areas seeing the first deep snow for nearly twenty years. It's not been the ideal conditions for outdoor activities, I've only managed general garden tidying. At the moment I'm turning my attention to my glass houses.
The last couple of summers have got off to a dry start, only to become predominately wet by mid July. These wet end to these summers can increase the risk fungal problems in the glasshouse environment and delay the ripening of fruits like tomatoes.
For the past couple of years I have been fortunate to buy well developed tomatoe plants very early in the season. This year I am going to raise my own tomatoes from seedlings, so i've spent the last couple of days insulating my front glass house with bubble wrap. I'm also going to use heated seed trays, hopefully that will be provide enough heat for germination.
'Has spring arrived' not quite, but at least it's a bit warmer...
The cold weather of late has damaged a lot of spring blooming plants, but the old reliable Daffodil is starting to flower in Cornwall at the moment.
I photographed this one on the way to work, still getting use to my new camera, but as a whole i'm please with my new Fuji 8100....
21st Feb...
What a fantastic weekend, my glass houses reached 30ºC during the day time on Saturday.
My tomatoes have now finally germinated, as well as Lettuce, Peas and some flower seeds. The fine weather looks to continue for the rest of the week, hopefullly night time temperature won't drop too much.
