March 09....
March is here already and Cornwall is seeing it's first taste of spring. As you can see in the photo to the left 'taken on Sunday 1st', toads in my natural pond have already started to spawn. There must be nearly thirty of them in their excitable breeding state. Hopefully will help keep the slug population down this spring...
Due to the cold spell in February many spring flowers 'such as the Camellia' are still a couple of weeks late in flowering. They really need things to warm up soon. Hopefully the cold weather forecasted for this first week, won't last too long. At the moment an area of high pressure is looking to move in over Cornwall for the weekend.
As you can see in the photo to the left my tomatoes have now germinated. This weekend while they are still at the two leaf stage, I will transplant them into larger pots. I'm still maintaining the heat in the glass house over night, as night time temperatures are still quite low.
I've decided to grow some peas for the first time in many years, as you can see in the photo to the right they are off to a good start and are certainly looking healthy...
